Steve Jobs met with Barack Obama and a dinner-table full of the Who’s Who of Tech.  The purpose of the get together was to see if we couldn’t chart an innovative path out of the mess we are in.  The White House released a statement that said this was part of President Obama’s plan to “win the future” by the government helping to promote American innovation, new research and development, education and energy.

The dinner party was held at the Woodside, CA home of venture capitalist John Doer.

Obama said he wanted to continue to work with the group “so we can work as partners to promote growth and create good jobs in the United States.”

The President wants to increase spending on high-tech initiatives like high speed internet, education in science and engineering and to double American exports in five years.  At the same time he is proposing major cuts on other programs including a five-year freeze on domestic spending.  Obama plans to support small business and start-ups.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs created some very visible additions to our world: the first really major personal computer, and more recently the iPod, iPhone and iPad.  Much of the future of Apple Computer is believed to rest on his innovative shoulders.  Unfortunately, Jobs is in poor health.  He is such a key player for such an important company that rumors are flying about how long he has to live.  For Mr. Jobs, Apple, and all of us who enjoy his style and ideas, may he prove the rumors wrong and enjoy many happy returns.
